The Battle was once the scene of memorable historical moments, with traces of occupation from the Paleolithic, through the Roman presence in the important city of Colippo, to the decisive struggles for independence. Of all these marks, an unavoidable cultural heritage results.
It was the victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota that dictated the construction of the Monastery of Batalha, a masterpiece of Portuguese gothic and considered, nowadays, an ex-libris of world heritage.
Located in Extremadura, an area marked by strong contrasts between sea and mountains, with unique landscapes, fertile soils and temperate climate, the Battle is part of the Estremenho Limestone Massif, covered by the Natural Park of serras de Aire and Candeeiros.
Limestone is a fundamental element of the landscape, being possible to observe several natural values, such as caves, algares, escarpments, fields of lapiás, among other elements. Among the rocks, flora and fauna that characterize the Estremenho Limestone Massif, we are faced with the greatest Iberian testimony in the history of geology.
The most coveted beaches in the country such as Nazaré, Vieira, Pedrogão, São Martinho do Porto or Peniche are located, on average, about an hour from the county headquarters. Surrounding, there are also other places full of history worthy of visit as the Mountains D'Aire and Candeeiros and S. Mamede, which make this area a place conducive to activities such as mountain biking, climbing and hiking trails included in the natural landscapes of the municipality.
Living in Battle is living in a county that values its identity, natural and historical, as well as its people. It is one of the municipalities with a lower unemployment rate, where inhabitants tend to have a good standard of living and satisfaction.
The Battle chamber is committed to job creation. The Industrial Zone of Jardoeira, with good road access, hostel of companies, and the provision of support for entrepreneurship and job creation are some of the examples of this effort.
