Celorico da Beira

Due to its strategic location, with the Mondego as a natural barrier, the municipality of Celorico da Beira has been inhabited for many millennia. Devido to the amount of paths existing by the county, it isabe that the Romans also passed through here. Subsequently, these lands were occupied by Goths and Arabs, and these remained in the region until the period of the reconquest.

The county seat is located at about 550m altitude, at the foot of serra da Estrela. In this mountain area, there is abounding stream and levadas of crystal clear water, with the River Mondego in great prominence at the hydrographic level.

In addition to a diversified built heritage, the municipality of Celorico da Beira, has other attractions that deserve your visit . you can also visit the Farmer and Cheese museum or take a walking route around the village of Celorico, which will lead to the Mondego River, the old bridges and also by one of the archaeological sites of interest that prove the human occupation between the Roman and medieval high period.

From the gastronomic heritage, the cheese and lamb of Serra da Estrela are ex-libris. The cheese of serra produced in the region attributed to this municipality the title of "Capital of Cheese of the Mountain".
