Possessor of a vast historical and architectural heritage, it was the land of former convents, humble or sunny house. The oldest human occupation area of Figueiró dos Vinhos was a pre-Roman settlement, called "the castle", an indication of the preexistence of a fort, on an elevated hill from which you can see the village and much of the surrounding territory.
In the 20th century, Figueiró dos Vinhos was elevated to The Tourist Resort, running the municipal park garden, the lapa da Moura hydroelectric plant and the inauguration of electric light, as well as the inauguration of the new mercy hospital and the Municipal Secondary School and the Bust of Malhoa.
In addition to the architectural heritage, which mirrors the history of the region, it is also notorious its natural heritage, of great importance for the municipality. Source of leisure for both inhabitants of the region and for visitors, the river beaches - with maximum exponent in fragas de São Simão-, where it is possible to go to baths and practice fishing, and the walking paths, with good conditions for the practice of mountain biking, are part of the attractions of the county. The historic Schist Villages, traditionally built, should also be part of the tourist itinerary of the municipality.
In gastronomy, the typical dishes of Figueiró dos Vinhos assume traditional characteristics, marked by simple ingredients and of the season, typical of this beirã region. Among the river fish dishes, sausages and meat dishes, the variety makes it possible to choose all tastes. In the sweets, stands out the sponge cake of Figueiró dos Vinhos and the sweet chestnuts.
