The Sardoal is a very old village with enormous historical significance. Traces of the man's presence have been found in some places in the county since prehistoric times. In addition to several polished stone objects, tthere are traces of a village that, given its size, denotes having been important, but about its origins little is known.
From the period of roman occupation were also some signs, such as a section of Roman sidewalk next to the Couple of Grace, which some historians attribute to the medieval period, and another small section, near the bridge of St. Francis.
From the Muslim period, it is known only that they remained here for a long time, since this people conquered Abrantes to the Goths. Given the proximity and neighborhood relationship that has always existed between Sardoal and Abrantes, it is not hard to believe that they have occupied what is today the municipality of Sardoal.
Or sixteenth century is considered the "golden century" of the history of the Sardoal. In these years, several reliogosbuildings of importance were built in the municipality. It was also in this century that many Sardoanlenses embarked on the epic of discoveries, from which came riches visible by the county, and on the journey of D. Sebastião to Africa, and consequent battle of Alcácer-Quibir.
Nowadays, Sardoal is a small municipality that, however, has several services and infrastructure necessary for the day-to-day life of its population and its visitors. It has a very rich historical, architectural, religious and cultural heritage.
Wine and locally produced handicrafts are one of the attractions of the municipality. But also its walking routes, fairs, markets and leisure areas are worth noting and visiting.
In gastronomy, stand out the bowls, so typical of the Middle Tagus area, the boiled kitchen and the dishes made with cabbage from Valscos.
Just over an hour from Lisbon and about two hours from Spain, this is a municipality served by excellent access, namely through the Variant to EN2 that connects you to the A23, A1 and IC8. In terms of rail it is served by the Beira Baixa Line.
