The human occupation in the municipality of Sátão, which has privileged natural conditions, with a very rich subsoil in raw materials and abundance of fertile land, dates back to time immemorial. Its topographic, orographic nature, abundance and fluidity of various watercourses, soon made it the stage of an intense human fixation that, over time, has been shaping its landscape, both natural and built.

The municipality of Sátão integrated in the Demarcated Region of Dão Wines, is characterized by the green pine forests and fields in contrast to the granite and shale valleys, traversed by numerous watercourses, with extensive vineyards cultivated in a flat landscape. Surrounded in aggressive weather conditions, it offers considerable diversity in terms of varieties, berries, fruits, vegetables and mushrooms, especially the misdemeanor, because agriculture was and continues to be, in the municipality of Satão, the mode of subsistence of a large part of the population.
