Tondela

Tondela, also known as Vale de Besteiros, is a town in the District of Viseu, located in the province of Beira Alta, with about 25,910 inhabitants (2021 census). It is the fourth largest city in the district and is located at the base of the Serra do Caramulo, in the Basin of the Águeda River and cut by the Dão River.

Considered as one of the main foci of archaeological remains, which allows us to situate in different scenarios the life of prehistoric populations, it is through these testimonies that we can try to understand the "modus vivendi" of the inhabitants of this region.

To go through the Municipality of Tondela, is to go to the discovery of the history of art, landscapes and people, because in each place there are also architectural heritage marks of other times worthy of being admired: imposing solar with their beautiful stones of arms, churches, chapels, bridges, weeds and water mills.

Tondela is also synonymous with Dão wine and hot water. It is in the parish of Lajeosa do Dão that you can enjoy moments of well-being in the Sangemil Termas, enjoying the rest along with an incomparable natural landscape.

Tondela is today one of the most industrialized municipalities in the Viseu region, considered an economic reference, because it can keep large companies in its territory and attract new investments. As nature tourism is one of the county's bets, tourist activity also has a strong impact on the local economy. In the primary sector, agriculture activities predominate, with emphasis on wine production, and aviculture and livestock.
