Vagos


Vagos is a Portuguese village located in the district of Aveiro, central region and sub-region of the Aveiro Region, with about 22,886 inhabitants (2021) and
 164.92 km² of area. The municipality consists of two parts divided by the Ria de Aveiro: a continental part and a portion of the dune cord of the Costa Nova.

To its geographical centrality, it joins its strategic positioning in the coastal connection between the district of Aveiro and the district of Coimbra. Thus, Vagos is easily accessible by car, bus and train.

This region, called Vaccus during the Roman occupation, did not yet exist in its entirety during the Middle Ages, a time when its importance was already recognized. Many of the current land was occupied by the sea, and later the silting of the vast plain where, today, the populations are mainly dedicated to agriculture and agriculture.

Vagos is a land of culture, full of events and festivals, fairs and parties throughout the year. It has a strong handmade component, particularly in the field of ceramics. 
 You can also find work on basketry, mats, miniature mills and more.

When visiting Vagos, you can taste the local cuisine , with traditional dishes that come from the sea, the land and the sea. From stewing eels to chanfana, from piglets to fresh fish freshly caught, not forgetting the leaves, the favada à Gandaresa or the papas de sarrabulho. In the sweets, the highlight goes to the pumpkin porridges, the queijadinhas of broad beans and the pumpkin queijadinhas.
