Aveiro is proud to be distinguished as the best municipality in Portugal in 2023, according to a study carried out by Marktest. This is the third time that Aveiro has reached first place, a feat that had already been achieved in 2019 and 2020.
The study considered several criteria, including demographic dynamism, economic dynamism, and quality of life. Aveiro stood out, obtaining a score of 14.0 on a scale of 1 to 20, which represented an increase of two positions compared to 2022.
José Ribau Esteves, Mayor of Aveiro, expressed his gratitude for this distinction: "This is a tribute that fills us with pride and reflects the tireless work carried out by the Municipality of Aveiro (CMA) in close collaboration with the business sector, public and private entities, associations and, of course, the citizens of Aveiro. CMA is committed to continuing its work and its political strategy to ensure that Aveiro continues on the path of growth and development."
The "municipal ratings" were created by Marktest in 2014, with the aim of providing useful tools for local entities and companies with a regional presence. This allows for the quick and intuitive dissemination of the main positive and negative characteristics of each municipality.
Globally, 39 indicators are analysed and grouped into three main components: demographic dynamism, economic dynamism and quality of life. Each indicator is rated on a scale of 1 to 20, based on the municipality's position among the 308 municipalities in the country. This initiative demonstrates Marktest's commitment to evaluating the performance of municipalities and offering a comprehensive view of the national landscape.
