In the 2023 edition of the National Competitions for Traditional Portuguese Products, products from the Sertã region were again awarded throughout this year.
Development: Sandra Rodrigues' pies were distinguished with three awards in the 12th edition of the National Contest of Traditional Portuguese Pastries and Pies, namely the title of "Best of the Best" with the Suckling Pig Pie. The Empada de Maranho was also awarded, with the gold medal, and the Chicken Pie, with the silver medal. These awards were announced during the 42nd edition of the Santarém National Gastronomy Festival, which took place at Casa do Campino between October 27 and November 5.
In the 13th edition of the National Contest of Traditional Portuguese Bagged, held in March, Bucho da Sertã do Talho Carnes Simões was awarded as "Best of the Best". The gold medal was also awarded to Maranho da Sertã, from the same producer, and the silver medal to Maranho da Sertã and Bucho da Sertã from the Cesel butcher shop.
In the same period, sausage producers were awarded at the 13th National Competition of Traditional Portuguese Sausages. The black pudding from Casel and the black pudding from Sertã, from the Carnes Simões butcher, received silver medals, while Farinheira da Sertã from Casel won the bronze medal.
In the National Contest of Traditional Portuguese Conventual Confectionery, in its 12th edition also in March, the Cernache Almond Cartridges from Bonjardim, from Pastelaria Império, received the gold medal.
Carlos Miranda, Mayor of Sertã, congratulated the producers, stressing that "these awards reaffirm the unquestionable quality of Sertã's endogenous products. It is also a sign that we are promoting the best that is done in the municipality of Sertã in terms of gastronomy". The mayor took the opportunity to praise the "work developed over the years by the various producers, whose products are true ambassadors of this county".
APROSER – Association of Producers of Sertã – welcomes this distinction, highlighting its importance and national scope, with the natural positive impact on the promotion and dissemination of endogenous products.
It should be noted that the National Competitions of Traditional Portuguese Products aim to qualify, value and disseminate the best traditional products in the food area, evaluating genuine products of Portuguese gastronomy and that do not use food additives.
